Thoughts

Kathleen Sutton Inspiration Fund appeared out of the dark winter of my cancer treatment like a bouquet of daffodils.  Not only has it helped financially, but Diane White has offered kindness and encouragement throughout.  Thank you, Kathleen Sutton - For I can only imaging you must have been quite a woman in order to inspire such a devoted team of helpers.

The expense of unconventional cancer treatment impacts our resources immensely. Since the cancer vaccine that saved my life is considered experimental, insurance doesn't recognize or cover what is saving my life. The Kathleen Sutton fund and team ease the transportation burden. Having a prepaid boarding pass feels great, and eases the collateral expenses associated with cancer treatment. Unlike many other cancer nonprofits The Kathleen Sutton fund really stands at the frontline, arm in arm with people like me. I'm truly grateful for them and extravagant giving by their supporters.

My name is Jo Chandler, and I live in Port Townsend, Wa.  The day after Christmas I was diagnosed with Stage III C, ILC breast cancer.  In January 2012 I had bilateral mastectomy and lympth dissection.  My cancer treatment started in February at the Olympic Cancer Center in Sequim, Wa., a 50 minute, 34 mile drive from my home, So not only was there stress, fear, and catastrophic medical expenses, there was the unexpected added expense for gas also.

While speaking to Susan Clements, Patient Navigator at Olympic Cancer Center, she gave me the name of Vivi-Ann Parnell, Kathleen Sutton Inspirational Fund (KSIF).  I contacted Vivi-Ann March 9th.  Everything happened quickly after that.  The incredible Vivi-Ann was warm, caring, supportive, and on March 19th I received a check for mileage...I cried tears of relief.  Everything had been overwhelming, and for the first time something positive happened. I received another check on April 14th, and will continue to receive mileage reimbursement until treatment complete.

KSIF provides the much-needed support for travel expenses to necessary medical appointments, which is extremely helpful, and of which I am SO very grateful!!!  The caring and warmth received from Vivi-Ann will never be forgotten and is a bright spot in the darkest time of my life.

Thank you Kathleen Sutton Inspirational Fund for your help to lessen the burden, you are wonderful.

People don't realize that for a woman living in Port Angeles, the daily round-trip transportation cost to a Seattle treatment facility is nearly $100.  When you add up the price of gas (remimbursed at 25 cents per mile), ferry fees for the driver and a passenger, plus parking you can see why we knew that this fund is so important.

I am deeply grateful for the fund's assistance with my many trips from Port Townsend to Sequim for radiation and for the kindness of my contact person.  For me, the program has been pratical inspiration with a human face.

Without the assistance of the Kathleen Sutton Inspirational Fund, I’m not sure how I could have continued the treatments due to the cost of travel.

I found myself getting a double mastectomy after my 4th diagnosis for breast cancer. My right breast was not healing due to radiation I had received 4 years earlier. My husband and I found ourselves financially depleted after high medical bills. We were forced to reach out for assistance so I could make the drive to the hyperbaric chamber in Tacoma in my efforts to heal.

It seemed that every organization had such a difficult policy applying and I just didn’t have any energy left to keep asking for help. But through Kathleen Sutton Fund, I was sent a check to cover gas and tolls for my treatments. During such a trying and exhausting time, I was so appreciative that they helped and that it didn’t require weeks or months to get the funds in my hand. No one has the energy when going thru this, nor does their pride allow them to beg.

If I had not been helped by the Kathleen Sutton Fund, I would have given up on the treatments because I simply did not have the funds for travel cost. I will be forever appreciative of the care and concern and financial help offered to me and my family during such a frightening time. Thank you so very much.
